Who is into coding? What can you code? What languages do you know? Where, when and how did you learn?

I program but not too often. It's easier for me to modify existing code rather than write it from scratch. I know some assembly languages, specifically z80 assembler, gameboy z80, and Motorola 68k assembly too. I know some C++, C# and Python.

If you know assembly languages, then I think you're not an amateur, lol.

I am not into coding but this is something I would like to learn someday, I wish I had time for learning how to code.

When I was younger, I knew GW-BASIC, QBASIC, and Visual Basic fairly well. Then I started to dabble in C and C++. That lead me into PHP and JavaScript, as well as Java (for college). For a while, I learned Visual Basic .NET and C#.

I built a couple of small utilities, with my biggest one being a full-featured trouble-shooting assistant when I worked Help Desk. After working there for a couple of years, I realized that most of the time spent troubleshooting problem calls, resulted in poorly managed configuration files. This was back in the day of .INI files. There would be misspelled keywords, and inappropriate value tokens. Sometimes the keywords were in the completely wrong section of the file! So what I did was I created an XML database structure to hold all the appropriate values, and later enhanced it to include documentation from the Development Department, so that everything was in one location (we used VPN to remote connect to sites, and we'd lose our internal network connection). This utility not only made finding conflagration problems a breeze, but also automatically backed up every change.

I was super proud of that accomplishment. Was I ever compensated for it? Nope. Have I ever been able to utilize that bullet point on my resume? Again, nope. Seems like a waste of time-- but I know that my efforts helped reduce frustration that my co-workers experienced. So I guess that's worth it, right?

I've learned the basics of most popular languages I think. However, I can probably say that only with Python do I have an intermediate understanding. Anyway, though, I'm working at the moment to learn more about coding and being at an assisted living facility, I've got lots of time.
