MSN Messenger

I used to use MSN back when I was a teenager in the mid to late 00's. My best friend and I would hop on chat rooms and get people's screennames and talk to random people on MSN Messenger. Do you have fond memories using this chat client? I thought it was better than AIM and Yahoo Messenger.

I've used all of the above. I actually started back with America Online Chat (when it used to cost money per the minute!) Then found AIM, Yahoo Messenger, ICQ, but MSN was probably my favorite. It was the one that had most of my friends on it-- friends from my forum community.

We'd chat about the role playing games we were in, and about life in general. I always threatened that we'd do a meetup someday, and I'd bake a chocolate cake. 😊

I used both the Windows and the Linux variety of applications as well, although, I really don't remember what the name of the multi-chat software I found was that I used for Linux, I do remember that it had a strange quirk where it would mix up communication chats, which lead to some confusion!

You mean Pidgin?

That name is ringing a bell. It is quite possibly Pidgin.

I started on AIM, but then also got YIM and MSN. When I did more than one messenger, Pidgin is what I used! That was a great software.

I miss the days of instant messengers. So much better than social media. It's how I had conversations with distant cousins and family.

This is how I see apps like Discord today. The owners may have changed, the application may have changed, but fundamentally, the process is still the same, with more features.

But I agree. I'm starting to really dislike Social Media

Yeah that's how I view them too, just with added features like voice chat. I agree with the social media responses lol, I've never liked social media other than Myspace.

The cool thing about MySpace was the fact that you could easily customize your Profile Page. Although, there was still quite a bit of censorship. My page was deleted three times before I finally just threw in the towel and moved onto another site...(which I think was Facebook! 😲

Dang I wasn't even aware they had censorship on the platform! I still think it's dumb that they didn't backup the website properly... So when the server died lots of music, posts, etc. died with the server.

Sorry i hated MSN, but preferred Windows Messenger. Plain and no ads..

Those were simpler times
