MySpace May Be Returning

While browsing Facebook the other day I came across an article shared on a page. Apparently there's talks about bringing back MySpace. It was my favorite social media platform since you could customize your own pages to your liking, something that no mainstream social media allows for users to do now. If it comes back I hope it won't be a carbon copy of other platforms like Digg ended up being.

I've a really bad feeling that this is going to be just like the "failed" attempt of resurrecting Digg with reduced features and a heavily vibecoded design. I wouldn't be surprised if that ends up being the result considering today's standards of web projects.

Anyway, and to be honest, who needs an official Myspace revival when you have stuff like Spacehey?

Oh nice I never knew there was a MySpace clone out there! Looks like there's a waitlist though, I'm going to sign up for it since I miss MySpace lol.

Oh, I though you already know about it since it has been there since a while.

I think there also used to be some other old MySpace clones out there but most probably all of them have been closed. The only one I remember is this one https://myspace.windows93.net/

I never knew about it, it's pretty cool!

I remember my transition from MySpace over to Facebook and it was really an uncertain time. I wanted to be where most of my friends were, but then discovered a lot of family was there and I could see pics of everyone that I don't normally see all the time. Will MySpace be the place where people move back to? I'm doubtful. Too many lazy people won't want to make the change.

Yeah unfortunately you're probably right about that. Many people are lazy and wouldn't want to move over to MySpace, let alone probably wouldn't want to add all the cool customizations to their profiles. My family is mainly on Facebook but I made a status saying if MySpace returns, I'll probably log in less on Facebook.

Unfortunately, the original guy isn't the person bringing the platform back. It's a Private Equity firm or Venture Capitalist that owns it now, so more than likely, the new MySpace will probably just harvest your data to advertise more crap you don't need.

The only retro site like this I belong to is https://www.aniroleplay.com/home.php Not that I actually have time to participate on there anymore.

I get the nostalgia. I’m scouring the WayBack Machine for the posts of my first anime forum. Painstakingly adding them, recreating the members…. all in hopes that somebody will be randomly browsing the Internet one day and trip over their old post(s), and be like: “Hey! I remember THAT!”

Of course, it probably won’t happen, but I’d like to remain optimistic.

To me it’s just because it reminds me to Facebook and Facebook these days it brings back bad memories. And also because I nowadays hate everything social-based. I prefer stuff like how forums used to be.

Anyway, I also found this one which it seems it’s open-source and you can also self-host in your own VPS or whatever.
